To address the issue of Technical Manpower shortage and to usher in a new era of Industrial Development, comparable to international standards, the Punjab Government constituted Punjab Technical University (PTU) in 1997 by an Act of the State Legislative. PTU affiliates 220 Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management and Architecture colleges in the State. Under its Distance Education Program, PTU has more than 1200 Learning Centers spread across the country offering quality education in various technical education fields.

Salient Features

• All courses offered by PTU are as per the nomenclature and guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC).
• All courses offered by PTU under this program have been approved by DEC, Distance Education Council, IGNOU, New Delhi vide letter no. F.1.-1/2006 (JU/SU) dated 6th Jan, 2006.
• The Chairman, DEC has categorically appreciated the initiative taken by PTU in contributing to the 11th plan by way of increasing the enrollment ratio through distance education.
